State tournaments continue this week
The second round for the Georgia High School Association state soccer and baseball tournaments continue this week.
In soccer, the Lee County girls travel to Marietta to meet Lassiter Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. in the Class AAAAAA state tournament. Lee County defeated Marietta High 1-0 last week in its first round game.
In baseball, Lee County will play host to top-ranked Walton in the state playoffs on Wednesday. The first game of a doubleheader is 5 p.m. with Game 2 to follow. If a third and deciding game of the best-of-three series is needed, it would be played at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Baconton Charter will play host to Trion in the Class A public school tournament. The Blazers open a doubleheader Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with a second game to follow. If a third game is needed, it would be played at noon on Thursday.
The GHSA girls state track & field meet is Thursday-Saturday at Hugh Mills Stadium. The boys state meet is May 12-14 in Jefferson, Ga.
The Deerfield-Windsor Knights baseball team will begin the Georgia Independent Schools Association Class AAA state tournament on Friday. The opponent and times have yet to be announced.
The DWS girls soccer team will play either Weber or Westminster in the GISA girls state soccer semifinals Friday at 4 p.m. at the Blanchard Woods Soccer Complex in Evans.
In the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association, the Sherwood Academy boys soccer team will play host to Alleluia at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the state semifinals.
Perry sinks hole-in-one
John “JP’ Perry hit a hole-in-one Saturday at the Stonebridge Golf & Country Club. Perry accomplished the mark on the 135-yard, No. 16 hole using a 6-iron. It was witnessed by Don Lee, Don Parton and Mike McCombs.
