Lee County finishes sweep of Coffee

Terrell Academy clips Deerfield-Windsor
Jay Murdock’s two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh proved the difference in Terrell Academy’s 5-4 baseball victory Thursday over Deerfield-Windsor.
Quintard Wright went 2-for-3 for Terrell Academy, while Jack Kimbrel and Baylin Moore each had two hits for Deerfield-Windsor.
Daniel Myers struck out eight in six innings of work to pick up the pitching victory, while Ethan Gray recorded a save. Kimbrel went the distance for Deerfield-Windsor, striking out five.
Lee County sweeps Coffee
Lee County moved closer to the GHSA Region 1-6A baseball title Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Coffee.
The Trojans won 8-2 and 6-3. Seth Nelson went 3-for for in the opener, while Drew Feagans went 3-for-3 in the second game.
Layne Wiard was the winning pitcher in Game 1, with Matt Cooper winning Game 2.
Worth County tops Monroe
Worth County completed a three-game sweep of Monroe on Friday, winning 14-2.
The Rams scored their 14 runs on three hits. Cason King had a triple for Worth County, while Jacob Perrin picked up the pitching victory.
Baconton Charter picks up win
Baconton Charter scored 12 runs in the fourth inning as the Blazers defeated Pataula Charter’s baseball team 20-1 on Wednesday.
Jackson Bostick went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI for Baconton Charter. Logan Cain went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Smith Pinson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Cain, Pinson and Spencer Culp each had doubles. Will Bush was the winning pitcher.
Bainbridge tops Pelham
The Bainbridge baseball team rolled to a 12-1 victory Wednesday over Pelham.
Pelham was held to two hits, with Gunner Wisham picking up a double. Dakota McEntyre took the loss.
SGTC basketball players sign
The South Georgia Tech men’s basketball team had two players sign with four-year programs last week.
Mike Boone, a guard from Charlotte, signed with Fayetteville State, a member of the NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Marquel Wiggins, a forward from Oglethorpe, signed with Talladega College, an NAIA Division I member.
Boone averaged 10.9 points per game for the Jets and started 22 of the 26 games that he played in during the 2017-18 season. He shot 41.5 percent from the field, hit 40.9 percent of his 3-point attempts and was a 77 percent free throw shooter.
Wiggins averaged 15.8 points and 9.3 rebounds, leading the team in rebounds. He was a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association All-Region first team selection.
