Worth County baseball posts victory

A two-run second inning and four-run fourth inning carried Worth County’s baseball team to a 7-1 victory Tuesday over Baconton Charter.

Cason King went 2-for-2 for Worth County, with DJ Edwards and Hunter Goodwin each picking up two RBI. Goodwin struck out 10 and walked two in a complete-game win.

Will Bush took the loss for Baconton Charter.

GSW baseball tops Valdosta State

Junior infielder Bradley Hough delivered a two-out, two-run single in the ninth inning to lift the Georgia Southwestern baseball team past Valdosta State 5-4 on Tuesday evening in Valdosta to complete a season sweep of the Blazers.

Hough drove in four of the Hurricanes’ five runs as he added a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

GSW (5-22) returns home to host Young Harris College in a three-game weekend Peach Belt Conference series starting with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Thomas baseball racks up runs in sweep

Thomas University’s baseball team shut out Trinity Baptist (Florida) 18-0 and 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Thomasville.

The Night Hawks (19-17) are riding a five-game winning streak in which Thomas has outscored its opponents 60-11.

Thomas returns to Sun Conference action Friday in Hardeeville, South Carolina, against USC Beaufort.

Thomas softball honored

Thomas University’s softball team is climbing in the NAIA coaches’ poll as two players earned Sun Conference weekly honors.

Kelsey Connolly earned the conference player of the week award, while Lauren West garnered her fourth straight pitcher of the week honor as Thomas reached the No. 10 spot in the NAIA coaches’ poll.

Connolly went 6-for-11 last week, including two doubles and two home runs. Against Keiser, the senior connected on the game-winning hit in extra innings in Game 1, then blasted a three-run home run and a grand slam in Game 2 as part of her 10-RBI week.

West gave up only six hits and one unearned run in 14-1/3 innings this week. The senior was 2-0 with one save in three outings. She has posted a 0.21 ERA in conference games so far this season.

The Night Hawks are back in action Friday at USC Beaufort.

Knights of Columbus hosting golf tournament

The 21st annual Knights of Columbus Charity Golf Tournament will take place April 7 at Griffin Bell Golf Course in Americus.

The four-player scramble is scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $60 per person, which includes cart, greens fee, lunch and drinks. Teams registered prior to this Saturday will be able to enter four golfers for the price of three.

A silent auction featuring a football autographed by Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart will take place alongside the tournament.

Adult baseball league forming

The Georgia/Florida Adult Baseball League is organizing for the 2018 season.

Teams throughout southern Georgia and northern Florida are welcome to join. A league meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 4 at Ricky’s Restaurant on U.S. 84 in Bainbridge, with the season set to begin in mid-April.
