Connecticut forward Chiney Ogwumike had 17 points and seven rebounds and reserves Jonquel Jones and Alex Bentley had a season-high 20 points apiece as the Sun remained the only unbeaten team in the WNBA with a 110-72 blowout victory over the host Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena on Friday.
Courtney Williams scored 15 points and Alyssa Thomas had 10 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for the Sun (4-0), who had a season high in points in the first game of a four-game road trip after winning their first three at home.
Diamond DeShields had 15 points and Courtney Vandersloot had 11 points, seven assists and eight turnovers in her first game with the Sky (2-3) after completing her overseas commitments. Cheyenne Parker had 12 points off the bench.
Point guard Jasmine Thomas had nine points, six rebounds and five assists for the Sun, who entered the game with a league-leading 96.3 scoring average and have scored at least 100 points three times. They also led the league field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and assists per game.
Jones made 8 of 10 field goals and hit two 3-pointers while playing only 16 1/2 minutes.
Alyssa Thomas is one of three WNBA players averaging a double-double, along with Minnesota’s Sylvia Fowles and Dallas’ Elizabeth Cambage.
Guard Allie Quigley, the Sky’s leading scorer, did not play after suffering an injury late in the fourth quarter of an overtime loss to Seattle last Friday. The Sky have lost three in a row after winning the first two games of the season.
Chicago scored seven of the first nine points, but the Sun went on a 13-7 run fueled by Williams’ eight points late in the first quarter and early in the second for a lead they never lost.
