DAWSON — The Terrell Academy boys basketball team rolled to an easy 78-40 victory over Piedmont Academy Wednesday night in the first round of the Georgia Independent Schools Association Class AA state basketball tournament at Terrell Academy.

It was a “feel good” victory for the Eagles, who advanced to meet Strong Rock in the state quarterfinals Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. at Brewton Parker College.

Herald Super 6er Jalin Wimberly finished with 27 points despite not playing the final quarter.

Every player on Terrell’s roster played and all but two scored. Zeb Waters finished with 12 points, while Colby Barbosa added 10.

The Eagles, who led by just 10 at halftime, blew the game open with a 44-point performance in the final two quarters.

“At halftime, I wasn’t real happy,” Terrell Academy coach Robert Bryant said. “We were giving up easy baskets and they were banking shots in. But the second half, our guys got after it.”

Bryant said the Eagles used their defense to score points in the second half.

“We took care of business in the first round so it’s on to the second round,” he said. “But we’ve got our work cut out against Strong Rock.”

Bryant said every player on Strong Rock’s starting lineup is 6-feet or taller.”
