DAWSON – The Terrell Academy Eagles will launch their 2024 campaign Friday night in the first of three home games to open the season in Dawson. The Eagles will face Southwest Georgia with a young team, led by a young quarterback.
The Eagles scrimmaged Briarwood Academy of Warrenton last week, coming up short by a 7-6 score.
“Our kids played hard,” head coach Bill Murdock said. “I was very proud of the way they played.”
The Eagles graduated 13 players from last year’s 6-5 team, including quarterback William Massey. Sophomore Bryse Peachey is set to fill the role for the Eagles.
“The team is really young,” said senior offensive tackle and older brother to the quarter, Wes Peachey. “But we work together really well and help each other out when needed. We should be pretty good.”
Other than the Peachey brothers, the Eagles’ offense will see running backs Hill Murdock and Ty Thomas, with an offensive line led by Dylan Harden and Baylor Stacey.
“I feel good about the development of our running game,” Murdock said. “We are working to develop some depth overall.”
Linebacker Dylan Harden will lead the defense for the Eagles, along with a group of sophomores — Bryse Peachey and Evan Montogmery at cornerback and Lex Bryant at linebacker.
After Friday night’s season opener, Brookwood of Thomasville comes to Terrell on Aug. 23 and the Eagles then have a week off before hosting Mount De Sales of Macon.
