DAWSON – The Terrell Academy Eagles (20-3) will host Heritage (19-12) of Newman in a three-game, Final Four series that begins Friday afternoon in Dawson. The team that wins two of the three games will then play for a state championship next week at Luther Williams Field in Macon.
The Eagles advanced to the Final Four last weekend with a two-game sweep over Deerfield-Windsor, 17-16 and 10-2. Heritage advanced with a two-game sweep of Tiftarea 2-0, 10-5. The other semi-final match pits Valwood (16-11) vs. John Milledge (12-11).
Friday’s doubleheader will begin at 1:30 p.m. with game two to follow. If needed, Saturday’s game will begin at 1:30. It will be the first time Terrell Academy and Heritage have played each other in baseball.
“Heritage has a really good baseball team,” said Terrell Academy Head Coach Ashley Walker. “They have four seniors who are really strong baseball players. They will bring excellent pitching depth and strong batting up and down the line-up.”
The Eagles will bring a strong lineup, as well, including eight seniors who are just days away from graduating. Those seniors include David Kile, Trevor Shipley, Quindon Wright, Daylor Drawdy, Kade Muliford, Tyler Loewe, Ethan Askew, and Dozier Swain.
“We are going to need to continue with the same offensive output that we had against Deerfield-Windsor,” Walker said. “But we are going to need to be more aggressive on the mound and throw more strikes. We won’t be able to get away with some of the things we did last week. Our pitchers have to throw strikes.”
The Eagles took Monday off and were back on the field Tuesday getting ready for Friday’s semi-final matchup. Walker said all of the Eagles were healthy and anxious to play.
