DAWSON — The Terrell County Lady Greenwave are playing their best basketball at exactly the right time.
Terrell County punched its ticket to the GHSA Elite Eight on Friday night with a commanding 59-32 victory over Wheeler County in front of a lively home crowd in Dawson.
The win lifts the Lady Greenwave to 24-4 on the season and moves them one step closer to a state championship berth. Next up will be Metter (20-3), which defeated Taylor County 58-36 on Friday night. The Elite Eight matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, with game time to be announced.
Friday’s win was no nail-biter. Terrell County controlled the tempo early and never allowed Wheeler County to find much rhythm offensively. The Greenwave defense set the tone, turning stops into transition opportunities and building a cushion that steadily grew as the game wore on.
Jada Rushing led the way with 18 points, attacking the basket and knocking down key shots whenever Wheeler County threatened to make a run. But what made the difference — and what has defined this team all season — was balance.
Lyneshia Hill added 14 points, providing steady scoring throughout the night. Chassidy Franklin chipped in eight, while Khloe Brown and Britney Hill each contributed seven. Ceailaja Samuel rounded out the scoring with five points as Terrell showcased the kind of depth that makes postseason opponents uneasy.
The Greenwave’s offensive balance was matched by disciplined defense, holding Wheeler County to just 32 points and preventing any sustained comeback attempt.
Now, the focus shifts to Metter.
The Tigers enter Tuesday’s game with a 20-3 record after their convincing win over Taylor County. But Terrell County carries momentum — and confidence — into the next round.
With 24 wins, a deep rotation and a defense that travels, the Lady Greenwave have positioned themselves as a serious threat in the final rounds of the GHSA playoffs.
One win away from the Final Four, Terrell County is still dancing — and showing no signs of slowing down.
