Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was informed Tuesday he will be released by the Houston Texans.

Thomas, 31, is recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon suffered Dec. 23 and is unlikely to be cleared for football activity until July or August.

Thomas had a base salary of $12 million for 2019. He will count $3.5 million against the Texans’ salary cap in dead money.

Houston gave up a fourth-round pick to acquire the former Georgia Tech star from the Denver Broncos in October.

He played in seven games and had 275 receiving yards for the Texans before the Week 16 injury. This is the second time in Thomas’ career he suffered a torn Achilles. He tore his right Achilles during his rookie season.
