Last week: Cairo beat Northside 38-0; Columbus beat Westover 46-26.

Series record: Northside leads 2-1.

Last meeting: Northside won 28-14 last season.

Notes: Following last week’s losses, both Northside and Westover are looking to keep pace in the race for the four Region 1-4A playoff spots … Westover’s defense gave up four touchdowns in the second quarter last week at Columbus, with the Patriots trailing 39-6 at halftime … Westover managed just 19 rushing yards offensively last week but completed 18-of-31 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns, with just one interception … Tonight’s game begins a three-game home stretch for Westover that also includes games against Cairo (Sept. 21) and Shaw (Oct. 5), with an open date (Sept. 28) thrown in.

Baconton Charter

at Mitchell County

Notes: Impressive wins over Chattahoochee County and Mitchell County put Mitchell County on track for another season-ending showdown with Pelham for the GHSA Region 1-1A title … Mitchell County quarterback James Thomas had a big night against Miller County, throwing for 264 yards and four touchdowns … Baconton Charter is the first team in Region 1-1A this season to play both Pelham and Mitchell County.

Southwest-Macon

at Lee County

Last week: Southwest beat Central-Macon 14-6; Lee County beat Americus-Sumter 49-7.

Notes: Ranked No. 1 in Class 6A all season, Lee County celebrates Homecoming with a game against a program that has had just two winning seasons since 1990 … Now in his sixth season at Southwest, head coach Joseph Dupree went 0-10 in his first season but has taken the Patriots to the GHSA Class 2A playoffs each of the past two seasons … Lee County won’t have another home game until its Oct. 19 showdown with Valdosta, with road games Sept. 28 (Thomson) and Northside-Warner Robins (Oct. 12) and two open dates (Sept. 21, Oct. 5).

Shaw

at Americus-Sumter

Notes: The 50th meeting between the Greenwave and Hornets takes place tonight … Pelham has yet to allow an opponent to score, with the Hornets putting up 161 points of their own so far … Only one other GHSA program, Social Circle, still has yet to allow a point this season, and Social Circle has just two games under its belt.

Dougherty

Notes: Carver head coach Corey Joyner faces his former team for the first time … Carver has already matched its win total from last year and is off to its best start since 2010, when the Tigers went unbeaten during the regular season and finished 13-1 … Dougherty will have its first Albany city series game of the year next week when it takes on Monroe.

Monroe

at Thomas County Central

Records: Monroe 2-2, Thomas County Central 2-1.

Last week: Perry beat Monroe 43-0; Thomas County Central beat Cook 43-0.

Series record: Thomas County Central leads 23-7.

Last meeting: Thomas County Central won 33-32 last season.

Notes: Monroe hasn’t defeated Thomas County Central since 1990, but the Tornadoes rallied in the second half to make last year’s game a one-point affair … TCC is led by first-year head coach Ashley Henderson, who won three GISA championships at Valwood before taking over for Bill Shaver during the offseason.

Calhoun County

at Chattahoochee County
