Mays

Game time: 7:30 p.m., Friday.

Records: Mays 11-1 (Region 5-6A champion); Lee County 11-1 (first in Region 1-6A).

Last week: Mays beat Centennial 48-41; Lee County beat Grovetown 38-6.

Common opponents: None.

Playoff appearances: Mays 16, Lee County 11.

Series history: Mays leads 1-0 (playoff meeting).

Last meeting: Mays won 35-22 in the 2016 Class 6A second round.

Winner gets next: Mays-Lee County winner hosts Harrison-Glynn Academy winner.

Notes: A matchup those in the Lee County community have wanted to see for a year, the Trojans are hungry to avenge last year’s loss in Atlanta … Mays, making its third quarterfinal appearance in the past four years, gave up 10 or more points to just two opponents during the regular season, but the Raiders gave up 28 to Sequoyah and 41 to Centennial in the playoffs … Following a season-opening loss to Stockbridge, Mays has scored at least 32 points in every game … Lee County is making its first quarterfinal appearance.

Clinch County

Records: Clinch County 9-2 (second place in Region 2-1A, No. 5 Class 1A-Public playoff seed); Mitchell County 10-1 (first in Region 1-1A, No. 4 Class 1A-Public playoff seed).

Last week: Clinch County beat Dooly County 48-35; Mitchell County beat Schley County 22-21.

Notes: It’s the second straight year that Clinch County and Mitchell County have met in the playoffs, but Mitchell County has a new head coach in Deshon Brock … After losing back-to-back games to Brooks County and Irwin County, Clinch County has won seven straight, securing the top at-large berth in the Class 1A-Public bracket in the process … Jim Dickerson has led Clinch County to three GHSA titles during his 14-year tenure, the most recent coming in 2015.
