Series history: Westover leads 5-4.

Last meeting: Americus-Sumter won 21-6 in 2016.

Notes: Region play starts this week in Region 1-4A … Just one game separated third through sixth place in the region last year, with Americus-Sumter going to the playoffs with a 4-3 region record and Westover missing out with a 3-4 mark … Westover quarterback Jordan Walton, a junior, is on pace for a 2,000-yard season through the air with 598 yards through three games … Walton also has 229 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground … Another junior, Jonathan Mock, is on pace for a 1,000-yard rushing season with 347 yards and three scores … Kobe Lewis is Americus-Sumter’s top rusher, scoring both touchdowns in the Panthers’ loss last week.

Last meeting: Lee County won 49-0 in 2016.

Notes: It’s Homecoming for Lee County, the top-ranked team in GHSA Class 6A … The Trojans enter what should be a fairly easy stretch of games prior to the heart of Region 1-6A play, with a road trip to injury-plagued Thomas County Central next week and a trip to post-Jake Fromm (and much depleted) Houston County in two weeks … Running back Nikko Cruz scored five touchdowns in last week’s win over Americus-Sumter … Jase Orndorff’s 782 passing yards puts him among the top 10 statewide, according to the Georgia High School Football Daily … Ty Terrell’s 359 receiving yards puts him among the top 15 in the state.

Thomasville

Last week: Thomasville off; Early County beat Worth County 36-4.

Series history: Thomasville leads 12-6.

Last meeting: Thomasville won 25-21 in 2016.

Notes: Simply put, it has been a rough go so far for Worth County and first-year head coach Ben Simmons, with the Rams getting held to a pair of safeties last week against an Early County team that won just one game last year … Ranked seventh in Class 2A, Thomasville’s victory two weeks ago over Monroe was the 700th in program history, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association … Bulldogs quarterback J.T. Rice has thrown for 682 yards and seven touchdowns, with Kevin Cochran catching 12 passes for 233 yards and three scores.

Last week: Both teams off.

Series history: Pelham leads 26-15.

Last meeting: Pelham won 48-6 in 2016.

Notes: Last year’s Region 1-1A champion, Pelham rebounded from its close season-opening loss to Westover by outscoring Baconton Charter and Terrell County by a combined 95-0 … Sophomore quarterback Kendrick Patterson has completed half of his passes, throwing for 498 yards and five touchdowns while also running for 163 yards and four scores … Dewaun Jones, a senior, has three defensive takeaways, picking up 56 yards on two interceptions and recovering a fumble … It’s Calhoun County’s home opener, following losses at Schley County and Randolph-Clay.

Mitchell County

at Chattahoochee County

Time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Records: Mitchell County 2-1, 2-0 GHSA Region 1-1A; Chattahoochee County 2-1, 2-0.

Series history: Mitchell County leads 1-0.

Last meeting: Mitchell County won 61-28 in 2016.

Notes: Two of the remaining four unbeaten teams (and two of the three 2-0 teams) in Region 1-1A play meet in Cusseta … Mitchell County quarterback James Thomas had a monster week last week, rushing for 284 yards and four touchdowns while also completing 9-of-16 passes for 84 yards … Thomas, a sophomore, has a combined 841 yards and eight touchdowns, including scoring runs of 87 and 82 yards, with his 511-yard rushing total placing him among the top 15 in the state … Chattahoochee County senior Michael Brown has three takeaways, two of them being fumble recoveries.

Last meeting: Miller County won 40-0 in 2016.

Notes: Miller County makes its second trip in two weeks to Centennial Stadium … Baconton Charter’s 2017 slate is playing out similar to its 2016 schedule, in which the Blazers were shut out in three straight games following a shutout win over Pataula Charter … This year, Baconton Charter shut out Pataula Charter before getting blanked by Pelham and Chattahoochee County, although the loss at Chattahoochee County was a close 12-0 affair … Blazers senior Max Deen has 255 rushing yards and two touchdowns … Miller County’s Chris Stovall, a junior, has rushed for 439 yards and four touchdowns.

Seminole County

at Terrell County

Time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Records: Seminole County 1-2, 1-1 GHSA Region 1-1A; Terrell County 0-3, 0-2.

Last week: Chattahoochee County beat Seminole County 35-30; Terrell County off.

Series history: Seminole County leads 44-24.

Last meeting: Terrell County won 20-14 in 2016.

Notes: Terrell County is off to a winless start after going 7-4 last year, but the Greenwave did start the 2016 season 0-2 before finishing the regular season with seven wins in eight games … This year’s team, however, has been shut out twice and has been outscored 121-18.

Pataula Charter

at Munroe (Quincy, Florida)

Time: 7 p.m. Friday.

Records: Pataula Charter 0-2; Munroe 0-2.

Series history: Munroe leads 1-0.

Last meeting: Munroe won 61-0 in 2016.

Notes: Pataula Charter hasn’t played since Aug. 25, the result of a bye week and the cancellation of games across Florida last Friday … This game was originally scheduled for Thursday in Edison, but Irma pushed the game back to Friday, forcing the game to become a Munroe home contest.

Deerfield-Windsor

at Pinewood Christian

Time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Records: Deerfield-Windsor 3-1; Pinewood Christian 1-3.

Last week: Deerfield-Windsor beat Westfield 28-7; Pinewood Christian off (game at Augusta Prep cancelled).

Series history: Deerfield-Windsor leads 11-6.

Last meeting: Deerfield-Windsor won 28-7 in 2016.

Notes: After holding just three opponents to fewer than 10 points a year ago, Deerfield-Windsor’s defense has held its past two opponents to a field goal and a touchdown, respectively … The Knights have just one more non-region play, a game at Bessemer Academy in Alabama, before starting GISA Region 3-3A competition.

Westwood

at Brookwood

Time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Records: Westwood 2-3; Brookwood 2-1.
