Three Lee County senior baseball players signed letters of intent to play college baseball Thursday afternoon during a ceremony at Lee County High School Logan Goff, Matt Cooper and Spencer Hanson are among the leaders of the Lee County Trojan baseball team that is heading into the Class AAAAAA state playoffs next week. Goff will play his next-level baseball at ABAC in Tifton, while Cooper and Hanson will be suiting up at Tallahassee Community College.

“the three guys embody what this program is about,” said Lee County head coach Brian Trivette. “They are what Lee County baseball is about. They represent great models for our other athletes.”

Goff is the son of Eddie and Crystal Goff and will be pitching at ABAC. “I chose ABAC because it is the school I wanted to go for an education in wildlife and agriculture,” said Goff. “So I can play baseball and learn more about the outdoors at the same time.” Goff is a two-sport athlete who also played on Lee County’s two state championship football teams.

Trivette called Goff the ultimate utility player because he has played seven different positions during the last two years . He has also emerged as one of the Trojan’s top pitchers and has also improved tremendously while batting. “He shines in clutch situations,” said Trivette. On the mound Goff has pitched 57 innings and struck out 37 batters. At the plate,he has played in 70 games, scored 35 runs, knocked in 36 runs and belted two doubles and three triples. He will pitch at ABAC, Goff said, and will play other positions if needed.

Cooper is the son of Chuck and Jennifer Cooper and will be pitching at Tallahassee Community College. “I love it down there,” said Matt Cooper. “The coaches are great and there are good quality people there.”

Cooper is a two-year starter at Lee County. “He is an extremely hard worker and has excellent drive,” Trivette said of Cooper. “His progress from a skinny kid in ninth grade to now has been exceptional. He is our work horse and leader on the mound.” In his high school career, Cooper has pitched 85 innings with an 11-3 record, striking out 83 batters and recording a 1.64 ERA.

Spencer Hanson is the son of Lynn and Rob Hanson and will play either in the outfield or as an infield utility player. “I chose Tallahassee because it is only an hour and a half away from home, it’s close to FSU — and I like FSU,” said Spencer Hanson. “Plus they offered, so I’m going.”

“Spencer is a truly gifted athlete,” Trivette said. “He has grown in so many ways over the last four years. He embraced a position change this season and has played a terrific center field for us.” Hanson is a three-year varsity player for the Trojans has been the lead off hitter for most of this season. “Spencer is a game changer,” said Trivette. “He is the guy you want up to bat when you are in a tight spot.” In 88 games played, Hanson has batted in 45 runs while scoring 46. He has hit one home run, six triples and 17 doubles. He has also stolen 26 bases.
