Tift County tops Worth 5-4

TIFTON — Worth County saw its winning streak come to an end Wednesday as the Tift County Blue Devils held off the Rams 5-4.

Worth County took an early lead in the first inning when the Rams scored on an error and scored another run in the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Blue Devils responded in the bottom of the third with three runs to take a 3-2 lead and then scored again in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead for good.

The big inning for Tift County came thanks to singles by Trey Barfield, Owen Manning, and Thad Weldon.

Joseph Pittman took the win on the mound for Tift County. He allowed no hits and one run over two innings, striking out three. Barfield, Parke Johnson, and Gauge Domingue all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Jeremiah Reddell took the loss for Worth County. He pitched four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

The Rams scattered seven hits in the game. Reddell and Worth Smith each recorded multiple hits for the Rams.

Tift County totaled nine hits in the game. Barfield and Manning all managed multiple hits for Tift County.

The loss drops the Rams to 15-2 on the season and Tift County improves to 10-10 on the year.

The Rams will host Bacconton Charter School in Sylvester at 5:30 p.m. today.
