Top 25 roundup: Michigan State seals outright Big Ten title

Cassius Winston scored 20 points while making all six of his 3-point attempts as No. 2 Michigan State clinched its first outright Big Ten title since 2009 by holding off Wisconsin 68-63 on Sunday in Madison, Wis.

Winston added six rebounds and five assists for the Spartans (28-3, 16-2 Big Ten), who have won 12 straight. Nick Ward contributed 14 points and six rebounds and Jaren Jackson Jr. chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

Spartans star forward Miles Bridges had 10 points but shot 3 of 15 from the field. Bridges was implicated in the FBI probe involving impermissible benefits to college players but was cleared to play by the NCAA on Saturday.

Freshman Brad Davison scored a career-high 30 points for the Badgers (14-17, 7-11). Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ added 13 points and six rebounds.

No. 9 Purdue 84, Minnesota 60

Dakota Mathias hit a career-high seven 3-pointers, and the Boilermakers celebrated a prolific senior class with a blowout of the Gophers in the Big Ten regular-season finale for both squads at West Lafayette, Ind.

Mathias finished with 25 points, and Carsen Edwards added 18 points for Purdue (26-5, 15-3). The Boilermakers have won three in a row and will be the No. 3 seed in this week’s Big Ten tournament.

Nate Mason scored 18 points and passed NBA Hall of Famer Kevin McHale for fifth place on Minnesota’s all-time scoring list. Jordan Murphy added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Gophers (15-16, 4-14 Big Ten), who have lost 10 of their last 11 games and will be the 11th seed in the conference tournament.

No. 11 Cincinnati 82, Tulsa 74

Gary Clark scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to help the Bearcats to a victory over the Golden Hurricane Center in Highland Heights, Ky.

Jarron Cumberland scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half and recorded eight assists as the Bearcats (25-4, 14-2 AAC) increased their lead to one game over second-place Wichita State in the conference race. Jacob Evans had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds, and Cane Broome also scored 15 points for Cincinnati.

Junior Etou scored 21 points for Tulsa (17-11, 10-6). Corey Henderson Jr. added 11 points for the Golden Hurricane, who had their six-game winning streak halted.

No. 20 Nevada 92, Colorado State 83

Caleb Martin scored 25 points and twin brother Cody Martin added 17 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds as the Wolf Pack defeated the Rams in Reno, Nev., to clinch at least a share of a second consecutive Mountain West Conference regular-season championship.

Jordan Caroline finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds and Josh Hall added 12 points for Nevada (25-5, 14-2 MW).

Prentiss Nixon finished with 27 points and nine rebounds for Colorado State (11-19, 4-13). Anthony Bonner scored 19 points and Nico Carvacho added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Rams, who lost their third straight game and for 10th time in 11 games.

No. 23 Houston 109, East Carolina 58

Armoni Brooks scored 21 points and Rob Gray added 19 points and 11 assists as the Cougars led by 49 points at halftime and cruised to a win over the Pirates in Houston.

The Cougars (22-6, 12-4 American Athletic Conference) set a league-game record for points in a half with 62 and produced their highest-scoring first half since racking up 69 in 131-62 win against Florida Tech on Nov. 22, 2005.

B.J. Tyson led the Pirates (10-17, 4-12) with 24 points.

NC State 92, No. 25 Florida State 72

The Wolfpack drained 13 shots from 3-point range on the way to a blowout of the Seminoles in Raleigh, N.C.

Wolfpack guard Allerik Freeman scored 14 of his 25 points in the second half. Torin Dorn posted 19 points as the Wolfpack defeated a nationally ranked team for the fifth time this season. NC State (20-9, 10-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) has a four-game winning streak for the first time since opening the season with five victories.

Trent Forrest had 16 points off the bench for Florida State (19-9, 8-8).
