Finally, Steve Torrence slowed Antron Brown in an NHRA drag race.
Torrence entered Sunday’s Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., having lost 22 of 23 rounds to Brown, but he reversed the trend with a victory in the Top Fuel finals.
Torrence ran 3.857 seconds to Brown’s 3.932 seconds — a margin of 36 feet — to win the event for the second year in succession and the third time overall. Torrence upped his season total to three wins and his career total to 11 wins.
Jack Beckman also slowed Ron Capps’ Funny Car run, beating him in the finals. Capps has won four events and now has two runner-up finishes, and he lost this finals by a close margin — 4.1 seconds to 4.143 seconds.

Greg Anderson won yet another Pro Stock event, beating Vincent Nobile in the finals of this one. Nobile got off the starting line quicker, but he lost by 11 feet, or 0.0362 seconds.
