Pelham senior Treun Pace signed a letter of intent to play football at Georgia Southern University Wednesday morning during a ceremony at the Pelham High School multi-purpose facility. A large crowd of friends, family and loved ones gathered into one of the meeting rooms upstairs in the facility to watch and congratulate Pace on his decision. Today is the first day of the early signing period for NCAA football.

Pace, a three-sport athlete at Pelham, will play strong safety at GSU and will run track for the Eagles. On the football field, Pace played strong safety on defense, wide receiver and running back on offense, and kick returner on special teams. He is also the starting point guard for the basketball team and competes in a number of events on the track team.

“I knew there was something special about him when I met him four years ago,” said Pelham Head Coach Dondrial Pinkins. “He works hard academically and athletically. He is always on time. His work ethic and dedication have set him up for greatness and I think he will do well at the next level.” Pace is one of three seniors from Pelham’s 12-1 football team that made it to the state semifinals before falling to Irwin County.

Pace is excited about playing for Georgia Southern. “The coaches I met are giving me an opportunity I did not see from the other offers,” Pace said. “The decision came down to Georgia Southern because of family involvement and the opportunity I have there.” Pace will pursue a degree in sports management.
