Lee County

Records (2017): Lee County 14-1, Dougherty 2-9.
Series history: Dougherty leads 10-6.
Last meeting: Lee County won 55-6 in 2013.
Notes: The Trojan Bowl resumes after a five-year hiatus, with the teams playing in the inaugural Hamp Smith Classic on the Albany State campus … It’s the debut of former University of Georgia player Damien Gary as Dougherty’s head coach … Lee County plays its first game following its GHSA Class 6A championship victory in December, with head coach Dean Fabrizio entering his 10th season as the head coach in Leesburg … Lee County is ranked No. 1 in the Georgia Sports Writers Association Class 6A preseason poll.
Jordan
at Monroe
Game time: 7:30 p.m.
Records (2017): Jordan 2-8, Monroe 3-7.
Series history: First meeting.
Notes: Both Monroe and Jordan have fielded football teams since the 1940s, but this is the first time the programs have met … Jordan enters with its third head coach in four seasons, with Joe Kegler, the head coach at Carver-Columbus from 2013-15, taking over for Justin Newman, who moved to Spencer … Monroe plays its first four games at Hugh Mills Stadium, not hitting the road until Sept. 14 for a game at Thomas County Central.
Macon County
at Pelham

Records (2017): Macon County 8-4, Pelham 9-3.
Series history: Macon County leads 14-7.
Last meeting: Macon County won 41-28 in the second round of the 2017 GHSA Class 1A-Public playoffs.
Notes: Macon County rallied from a 21-7 deficit in last year’s playoff matchup in Montezuma, scoring three touchdowns in the final quarter to advance … Pelham quarterback Kendrick Patterson returns for his third season under center … Pelham put a little more than nine minutes of work in during its scrimmage last week against Thomasville before bad weather set in … Macon County’s scrimmage with Westside-Macon was completely washed out … Macon County is ranked 10th in the GSWA Class 1A preseason poll.
Americus-Sumter
at Crisp County

Records (2017): Americus-Sumter 9-3, Crisp County 9-2.
Series history: Crisp County leads 7-3.

Notes: Larry Harold makes his debut as Americus-Sumter head coach … Both teams come off region championships, with Americus-Sumter winning Region 1-4A and Crisp County claiming Region 1-3A … Crisp County enters the season minus three major senior transfers: Defensive back Jammie Robinson (now at Lee County, ranked 50th by 247Sports in Georgia’s Class of 2019), defensive lineman DeAngelo Griffin (now at Lee County, committed to Minnesota) and quarterback Patrick Felton (now at Tift County).
Westover
at Cook

Series history: Westover leads 2-1.
Last meeting: Westover won 21-6 in 1973.
Notes: Former Georgia and Georgia Southern assistant Olten Downs makes his Westover debut … The teams meet for the first time in 45 years … All three games in the series took place between 1969 and 1973, when they were members of the same region.
Worth County

Notes: One of southwest Georgia’s top Week 1 games, a strong Class 1A-Public Mitchell County squad takes on a Brooks County team that went to the GHSA Class 2A semifinals last year … Brooks County is ranked fourth in the GSWA Class 2A preseason poll.
Chattahoochee County
at Terrell County

Series history: Chattahoochee County leads 3-1.
Last meeting: Chattahoochee County won 19-6 in 2017.
Notes: Chattahoochee County enjoyed its strongest season in eight years last year, going 7-4 and finishing third in GHSA Region 1-1A … The game is the lone true region game on the Week 1 schedule in the Albany area, with Terrell County playing its only non-region game next week at Monroe.
Heritage
