ALBANY — Another Albany area athlete is set to play big-time college football.
Westover’s Montravious Richardson committed to Mississippi State late Wednesday night, announcing his decision via Twitter.
The 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive lineman received an offer from Mississippi State earlier this summer and also visited the Starkville campus.
“It was really cool to be on their campus,” Richardson said. “You feel just a different atmosphere at a school like that. Playing under the lights and in front of that many fans is something I have dreamed about.”
He is currently rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports and the 170th prospect in the state of Georgia.
“I really enjoyed talking to Coach (Dan) Mullen,” Richardson said. “He said I would need to work hard if I came there and that it would be the right school for me. I felt like I’m a hard worker and that would fit me so I wanted to go there.”
According to the recruiting website, Richardson also received an offer from Georgia State and had interest from Orgeon State, Middle Tennessee State and West Virginia.
Commitments are non-binding and aren’t unofficial until Richardson signs a letter-of-intent.
Richardson has been key for the Patriots’ successful rushing attack this year. Westover had two 100-yard rushers against Albany two weeks ago and the team had more than 200 rushing yards last week against Dougherty.
