SYLVESTER — Worth County senior Lee Little scored twice in the second quarter of the Rams’ win over Dougherty Friday night with a 27-yard touchdown pass and a 68-yard pass interception he took in for another touchdown as the Rams beat the Trojans 49-12 at Milt Miller Field.
But those two were only a portion of the big plays by the Rams, who scored seven times. A 35-yard pass to Chris McDaniel early in the third quarter and a 60-yard touchdown run by Horace Everson later in the quarter put the Trojans away.
The Rams built a 21-6 halftime lead after Little’s second touchdown of the quarter. The Trojans were moving into Worth County territory after Doughtery’s Kahlid Haines recovered a fumble and gave the Trojans possession of the ball.
The Trojans had moved down to the the 37-yard line when the drive was starting to stall. Doughtery quarterback Dreshon Alston threw a wide right pass but Little picked it off and raced 68 yards for the score.
Little’s first touchdown of the night came on a 23-yard pass from quarterback Lance Eldridge. The touchdown capped a 40-yard drive that changed the game significantly. The Rams had stopped the Trojans deep inside their own territory and forced a punt from the goal line.
The kick was caught by the Rams but the ball was stripped away from the Trojans’ Billy Rushing who raced all the way in for a touchdown. The officials ruled the play had been called dead and the Rams maintained possession and scored two plays later.
The Rams opened the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown from Malik Dassie. The touchdown capped a 79-yard, 12-play drive. The drive looked in danger deep in Trojan territory as the Rams faced a fourth-and-four, but the Trojans jumped off sides on the play and gave the Rams a first down at the 12.
Looking to regroup after the half, the Trojans were hoping to come back in the second half. But the Rams took the opening kickoff and less than three minutes into the half, McDaniel had his touchdown. McDaniel actually scored twice. First, he raced in for a 43-yard run that was called back because of a penalty, so on the next play Eldridge hit McDaniel about the 25-yard line and he raced in for the score.
The Rams last touchdown was a 22-yard run by Montavious Buford in the fourth quarter.
Doughtery County’s Demerious Milton scored both of the touchdowns for the Trojans. The Trojans got possession after the Rams’ third touchdown and took over around midfield thanks to a muffed onside kick play. A pass interference call and a pass play to Dreshon Alton got the Trojans deep in Worth County territory before Milton scored from eight yards out.
His second touchdown came late in the third quarter on a seven-yard run. He has set up the touchdown with a strong 30-yard run through the middle of Rams defense.
The Rams are now 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in region competition. The Trojans fell to 2-6 on the season.
