Worth County’s Brandon Moore signs with Allen University
Moore was the Albany Herald Player of the Year this past season

SYLVESTER — The majority of the Worth County cafeteria workers wore different outfits than normal on Tuesday afternoon.
Instead of the usual attire, the staff wore blue and yellow Allen University shirts as they took a break from working to watch Worth forward Brandon Moore sign a letter-of-intent with the aforementioned school.
Moore, who was named the Herald’s Player of the Year this past season, received interest late in the spring from Allen and took a visit before committing.
“This is a very special day,” Moore said. “It proves to so many that I can do it even though there were so many doubts and negative people. I always strive to be great.”
The 6-foot-5 forward averaged 22 points per game, 12 rebounds and two blocks this season. He was a big reason Worth finished in a three-way tie for first-place in the Georgia High School Association Region 1-AAAA standings.
Moore also had interest from Florida A&M and Citadel, but felt he had a better chance to get more playing time at Allen.
“They are a smaller team,” he said. “That means they need height and aggressiveness. I picked them because I felt like I would be able to get on the court and show my talent pretty quickly.”
The senior stepped up during big games for Worth this season. He finished with 33 points and 20 rebounds during a late-season game against Westover.
In another game against Monroe, Moore scored 32 points, including the game-winning layup with 6.3 seconds left.
“I’ve only known Brandon for one year,” Worth coach Roney Mays said to the crowd that had gathered to watch Moore sign. “He is a great kid and he has a great work ethic. I know he will do well at Allen University.”
Allen is an NAIA school that is located in Columbia, S.C. The Yellow Jackets will become a full-time member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference during the 2016-17 season.
