All-Albany Girl’s basketball awards announced
No doubt in who is the Player of the Year – Monroe’s Kie Aundria Acree.
ALBANY – There may be room for discussion when it comes to most basketball awards in the Albany area, but there is no debate about who deserves the Albany Herald’s Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Monroe sophomore Kie’Aundria Acree has been recognized by media outlets across the state, and her hometown newspaper is proud to add another honor to her growing list of accolades.
While Acree and the Lady Tornadoes didn’t return to the Final Four this season as they did a year ago, her performance on the court was nothing short of remarkable. With two years of high school basketball still ahead of her, it’s clear more records are destined to fall.
Most high school players celebrate reaching 1,000 career points after four seasons. Acree nearly hit that milestone in a single year, finishing with 932 points — the most of any girls’ high school basketball player in Georgia this season. She recorded a double-double in every game, posting at least 10 points and 10 rebounds each time she stepped on the court. She has earned the AJC Class AAA Player of the Year award, GACA South Player of the Year, Sandy Speil’s Class 3A Player of the Year award, among others.

The daughter of Monroe girls’ head coach Jennifer Acree, Kie’Aundria averaged 31 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, four steals, and 3.7 blocks per game. Her dominance helped lead Monroe to a region championship and an appearance in the Elite Eight, where they fell to eventual state champion Cherokee Bluff. The Lady Tornadoes finished 24-6 and will lose just one senior to graduation.
While many postseason awards can spark debate, there is no question about this one — Kie’Aundria Acree is the Albany Herald’s 2024 Girls Player of the Year.
