ATHENS — Georgia used a dominant second quarter and four double-digit scorers to overwhelm rival Georgia Tech, 87–59, Sunday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum. The win marked the Lady Bulldogs’ largest margin of victory over the Yellow Jackets since 1994.
Sophomore guard Dani Carnegie led Georgia (7–0) with 23 points, her second straight 20-point game. Trinity Turner and Riley Theuerkauf added 18 each, and Mia Woolfolk scored 16 with a team-high three steals. After trailing 16–11 at the end of the first quarter, Georgia outscored Tech 23–4 in the second to seize control.
Georgia Tech (3–3) was paced by Savannah Samuel and Catherine Alben with 12 points apiece, while Jada Crawshaw added 10 points, six rebounds and a career-best four steals. The Jackets led early but could not withstand Georgia’s defensive surge and depth, falling behind 66–43 entering the fourth.
Georgia head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson praised her team’s poise and defensive turnaround. Both Carnegie and Turner credited the second-quarter defensive lockdown as the spark that changed the game.
Georgia visits Kansas Friday in the Fort Myers Tip-Off, while Tech travels to the Cayman Islands Classic to face St. John’s and Florida.
