Jaden Upshaw, Antwan Lockett named in Power 100

ALBANY – Southwest Georgia continues to make its mark on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Georgia Power 100 preseason rankings.

After Worth County quarterback Lyndon Worthy was previously recognized among the state’s top signal callers, Lee County’s Jaden Upshaw and former Dougherty High School standout Antwan Lockett have earned spots among Georgia’s top wide receivers.

Upshaw enters his senior season as Georgia’s top senior wide receiver prospect, according to the AJC, and ranks as Lee County’s No. 2 football prospect this century, trailing only former five-star defensive lineman Aubrey Solomon.

The Texas A&M commitment has been one of the state’s most productive receivers throughout his career despite missing time last season. Playing in just 10 games, Upshaw caught 47 passes for 902 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior after posting 842 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns during Lee County’s 13-1 campaign as a sophomore. He enters his final high school season with 125 receptions for 1,964 yards and 22 touchdowns while serving as one of the cornerstones of a Trojans offense expected to rank among the state’s most explosive.

Lockett also earned a place on the prestigious list after a breakout season at Colquitt County.

The Georgia Tech commitment spent his first two varsity seasons at Dougherty High School before transferring to Colquitt County, where he made an immediate impact. Last season, Lockett hauled in 40 receptions for 811 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Packers after totaling 506 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore at Dougherty.

The Georgia Power 100, compiled annually by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, recognizes the state’s top high school football prospects based primarily on on-field production while also considering college potential. Position groups are being released throughout the week before the unveiling of the complete Georgia Power 100.

With Worthy, Upshaw and Lockett already recognized, Southwest Georgia has placed three players on the Georgia Power 100, with several position groups still to be announced.
