ALBANY — Albany Surgical officially broke ground Monday on its new office and ambulatory surgery center (ACS) fronting Westover Boulevard adjacent to CVS Pharmacy. While the weather was chilly and overcast, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the large crowd which gathered for the ceremony.
The practice is investing more than $6 million in the project which will be built by LRA Constructors. The building is expected to take 11 months to complete. The new surgical facility will include approximate 25,000 square feet of new construction and is located on approximately a 2.4 acre site which borders both Westover and Point North boulevards.
The six-physician partnership is made up of of Drs. J. Price Corr, John B. Davis, A. Cullen Richardson III, Christopher C. Smith, Bob Aderhold and Mark Herndon. Corr said the new facility is the first general surgery ASC to be constructed in south Georgia and is meant to better server the needs of patients in the region.
“We talked to a lot of patients in south Georgia and we think the facility will keep patients and help attract new patients from the region,” Price said. “Some complained that they had to leave the area for procedures such as colonoscopies and this building will keep them closer to home.
“We still support the local hospital and this facility should not be considered to be anti-hospital.”
The new facility will contain expanded clinical practice space, as well as a state licensed two operating room outpatient surgical suite.
