Deadline Thursday to participate in weekend’s African American Literature Read-In Chain

ALBANY — Those who want to participate in the annual African American Literature Read-In Chain on Sunday and Monday at Albany State University have until 5 p.m. Thursday to sign up, ASU officials said.

Started by the National Council of Teachers of English, the Read-In Chain is designed to increase the reading of works by and about black Americans. The ASU event, sponsored by the university’s Department of English, Modern Languages and Mass Communications, will take place 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m.-noon Monday at Orene Hall.

During the event, students, faculty and staff of ASU and local residents are being invited to read literary works by African Americans. The readings may also be from original works.

Those who want to participate should submit copies of their works, a brief biography and the day they prefer to read via email to [email protected].
