TIFTON — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will host its third Young Writer’s Workshop on July 14.

The workshop is for high school juniors and seniors and aims to help them improve their creative writing skills. This year the workshop will feature Jessica Hawke, a young adult novelist. Hawke wrote the “Phantom” series. Her work focuses on fantasy and the paranormal.

Previous speakers at the workshop have included Michael Lucker, screenwriter of such films as “Vampire in Brooklyn,” “Home On the Range,” and “Spirit,” as well as Janice Daugharty, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated Georgia novelist.

ABAC faculty will also lead poetry and non-fiction-writing sessions at the workshop.

The workshop will begin with registration from 8:30-9 a.m. and end with a reception from 3:30-4 p.m. Cost to attend is $10, and lunch and a T-shirt will be provided.

The workshop also includes a contest for poetry, fiction, non-fiction and short films. A slot to submit entries for the contest is provided at the registration address https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/aYgdpqj8fW5Rd4.

Winners of the contest will be announced at the reception. The reception will also feature a discussion by ABAC alumni and community members on career paths for students interested in writing.
