ALBANY – The death of a 21-year-old man who was found hanged outside a building at Turner Job Corps is under investigation by the Albany Police Department.

Justice Kai James was pronounced dead shortly before 10 p.m. at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, according to police and Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler.

James was found outside the cafeteria at the sprawling campus in the 1000 block of Schilling Avenue in southeast Albany at about 10:39 p.m., police said.

Bystanders performed CPR after finding James unresponsive, Police Chief Michael Persley said during a Monday news conference. Dougherty County Emergency Medical Services also responded and transported the 21-year-old student to the hospital.

While police have listed the death as suspicious, Fowler said that as of Monday morning, homicide was not suspected. The body will be taken on Thursday for autopsy at a Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime laboratory, the coroner said.
