From Staff Reports
LEESBURG — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office filed charges earlier this week against a man thought to be connected to several entering auto and burglary cases.
The sheriff’s office said that, on Tuesday, at about 3:49 a.m., the agency responded to the 700 block of Childers Road in Smithville in reference to a report of a suspicious person driving a vehicle with no headlights. Deputies made contact with the suspicious person, now identified as Elvanta Jedidiah Worthington, 20, who said that he was just driving in the area.
Worthington was arrested on an unrelated matter, an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear. Deputies later were able to determine that Worthington was a suspect in several entering auto and burglary cases which had occurred prior to their making contact with him, officials with the sheriff’s office said.
Officials said deputies recovered all the items reported stolen from the multiple entering automobiles and burglary. Worthington has been charged with three counts of entering auto, second-degree burglary and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
