CORDELE — Officials with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office said recovery efforts concluded 8:42 a.m. this morning with the recovery of the body of Mark Lund, 38, of Albany after his kayak overturned on Lake Blackshear on Saturday.
The sheriff’s office said the Georgia Body Recovery Team and Georgia Piedmont Region Search and Rescue joined in the recovery efforts, each with a cadaver dog. At around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock was joined by Worth County Sheriff Don Whitaker, Turner County Sheriff Andy Hester and Sumter County Chief Deputy Eric Bryant on the scene to look for Lund.
“Sheriff Hancock greatly appreciates the outpouring of assistance received from surrounding law enforcement agencies and first responders,” officials from the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office said.
On Saturday, shortly before 4 p.m., first responders were dispatched to Lake Blackshear to a man in distress after his kayak overturned. Bystanders were quick to offer assistance, but were unsuccessful. The Department of Natural Resources, Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, Crisp County Fire Rescue, Sumter County Fire Rescue Dive Team and Crisp County EMS responded and initiated a search.
The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office said its personnel and DNR continued recovery efforts well into the night Saturday. At 11:40 p.m., recovery efforts were suspended until Sunday at 6 a.m. The Lee County Dive Team and Georgia State Patrol Aviation were also among the agencies involved in the search.
Lund and his wife, Crystal, were both nutritionists and founders of Team Lund, a program operated through Tony’s Fitness Group at 623 N. Westover Blvd.
