Serena Williams is out of the French Open, but there will be an American playing in the championship match.

Americans Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys both swept their quarterfinal matches Tuesday in Paris, setting up a semifinal showdown on Thursday.

First, the 13th-seeded Keys needed a little work to get past unseeded Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Next, the 10th-seeded Stephens breezed past 14th-seeded Daria Kasatkina of Russia, 6-3, 6-1. Stephens needed just 71 minutes to win the match.

It will be a rematch of the 2017 U.S. Open final, which Stephens won for her first career slam.

“Playing her in the semis of a Grand Slam is another great opportunity and great for American tennis,” Stephens said after the match Tuesday.

Williams advanced to the fourth round in Paris, but withdrew Monday because of a pectoral injury before taking the court against Maria Sharapova.

Sharapova, seeded 28th, will face 3-seed Garbine Muguruza of Spain in one of two quarterfinals set for Wednesday. Top-seeded Simona Halep of Romania will face 12-seed Angelique Kerber of Germany in the other quarterfinal.
