TIFTON — Fusing classical quartet aesthetic with contemporary American musical styles, the Turtle Island String Quartet brings its Grammy Award-winning music to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Bainbridge on March 29 for what promises to be a bold and breathtaking performance.

As a part of the Carter Arts and Lecture Series, the Turtle Island String Quartet takes the stage at 7 p.m. on that Friday at the Kirbo Center Auditorium. The Turtle Island String Quartet debuted in 1985, and since that time the group has been a singular force in the creation of bold, new trends in chamber music for strings.

Famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma claims the Turtle Island String Quartet to be “a unified voice that truly breaks new ground – authentic and passionate – a reflection of some of the most creative music-making today.”

Made possible through the Kirbo Foundation, this event is free and open to the public. For more information, interested persons can call Jenny Harper, chairwoman for the Carter Arts and Lecture Series, at (229) 243-3160; email Harper at [email protected], or visit the Carter Arts and Lecture Series on Facebook.
