ALBANY – Albany residents will get a chance to weigh in on the plans on the Bill Miller Community Center replacement project during a Tuesday town hall meeting with Mayor Bo Dorough and Ward I Commissioner Jon Howard.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the 312 Vicks Drive gym location and will be an opportunity to ask questions and give comments on the project.
Plans are to raze the building, built in the 1970s, and construct a new facility, Howard said. The commissioner said he hopes the new community center will have something for everyone, including a walking track and ceramics area for older residents as well as the traditional indoor athletics and gym.
“We just want to give them a place to come socialize with neighbors and participate in what their city is doing,” he said.
The timeline for starting the construction project is likely “in the distant future,” but Howard said he hopes that means some time before the end of 2025.
