ALBANY — The Albany Recreation and Parks Department is offering “A Day to Shine” for area students with a Tuesday dance at the Albany Civic Center.

The dance is open to special needs children in the community and will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The event is free for children grades 4-12 and will include activities, dancing, music and encouraging words from a speaker.

“This was brought out from ‘A Night to Shine,’” Velvet Poole, the community event supervisor with the recreation department, said. “The organizers for that program said they would like to introduce A Day to Shine.”

Officials with the department say they expect the dance to be a celebration of happiness, progress, strength and resilience.

DJ Dollar Bill of Albany will provide entertainment.
