LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Christmas can happen again in our hearts

To the Editor:

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)

The angel of the Lord brought good news to the humble shepherds in Bethlehem. However, every time I turn on the TV, I hear bad news. Terrible news of atrocities and what seems like insanity manifesting in our streets.

In the Middle East, where Christ was born, the people are being torn by strife and hate. How did we get this far off course as a nation here in America? Can we continue to celebrate Christmas as if the birth of Christ never happened?

The only good news I can think about is that Christmas can happen again in each of our hearts, and God’s peace and love can fill us even though the world is full of hate and strife.

Christ said, “Be of good cheer I have overcome the world.”

In the world we will have trouble, He said, “If they persecuted Me they will persecute you.”

Both Jews and Christians are under the gun. But He overcame, and so can we. We can celebrate Christmas because of Easter.

Merry Christmas.
