Albany sees marginal increase in October unemployment
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson has reported that Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 4.1% in October, up one-tenth of a percent over the previous month.

ATLANTA — Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 4.0% in October, up one-tenth of a percent over the month, Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said. A year ago, the rate was 3.8%.
“Georgia’s unemployment rate remains below the national average, but businesses face growing pressure, including finding and retaining top-tier talent,” Thompson said in a news release. “As we attract diverse companies across the state, we must remain focused on developing the skills needed to meet critical work force demands without reallocating talent between industries. By prioritizing our labor force, we can further strengthen Georgia as a place where both businesses and individuals can thrive together.”
The labor force decreased in Albany by 24 and ended the month with 65,502. That number went up by 1,010 when compared to October of 2022.
Albany finished the month with 62,901 employed residents. That number decreased by 53 over the month and rose by 840 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Albany ended October with 63,900 jobs. Jobs increased by 500 over the month and were up by 1,200 over the year.
In October, initial unemployment claims increased by 89 (34%) in Albany. By comparison, October 2023 claims claims were up by 36 (12%) over October 2022.
