DAWSON — Terrell Academy senior Tucker Leanza blasted two home runs Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to slow down a red-hot Westwood lineup that tallied 12 hits off four different Eagle pitchers in a 14-5 win at Terrell Academy.
“We got out-hit and outplayed today,” said Terrell Academy head coach Ashley Walker. “It’s not a secret — just wasn’t a good day for the Eagles.”
Westwood wasted no time taking control, scoring three runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a two-run homer from senior catcher Sam Summerlin. The Eagles answered with a solo home run from Leanza over the left-field fence in the bottom of the second, but the Wildcats responded with three more runs in the third, forcing starter Kyle Hall off the mound.
Brody Cowart entered in relief and stopped the bleeding, but Westwood added two more runs in the fifth. Jack Hampson then took over on the mound for Terrell Academy.
Leanza led off the bottom of the sixth with his second home run of the game, giving the Eagles hope for a late rally. Trailing 8-5 entering the seventh, Terrell Academy saw the game slip further out of reach when the Wildcats tagged Hampson for five runs. Landon Rogers was called in to finish the game on the mound.
Westwood’s Liam Rogers earned the win, pitching six innings while allowing eight hits, five earned runs, three walks, and recording six strikeouts. Kaden Gunn closed the door with a perfect seventh inning.
Summerlin and Gunn led Westwood at the plate with three hits apiece, while Cade Swilley and Noah Sherman added two hits each.
The Wildcats are scheduled to play at Southwest Georgia Friday afternoon. Terrell Academy has completed its regular season and will await playoff seeding, expected to be announced this weekend.
