Graceland opens its doors

ALBANY, Ga. — The Graceland Institute of Early Learning officially cut the ribbon on its new facility at 1201 W. Oglethorpe Blvd. on Monday.
The center, which does Criterion-Referenced Competency Test preparation and tutoring for elementary and middle school students, has been located for the past two years at Greater Grace Church of God in Christ.
The new center is located in the former Darsey School building.
“Our job is to help Dougherty County third through sixth grade students prepare for the CRCT, provide tutoring and even help with homework,” Center Directory Beverly Hutcherson said.
The center, which is in the final year of a three-year-grant, targets third through seventh graders who need extra help with CRCT prep and tutoring. The center, which is open Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., currently serves between 65 and 72 students per day.
“Most of our students are recommended by teachers and counselors at their respective schools,” Hutcherson said. “All our teachers are counselors are certified. We pre-test and post-test the children and get their CRCT scores. We’ve made measurable progress over the past two years.”
