Albany State Track and Field shines at Morehouse Relays

ATLANTA — Albany State’s track and field teams didn’t just show up at the Morehouse Relays.

They showed out.

Over three days of competition against a deep and talented field, the Golden Rams turned in one of their most complete performances of the season — the women finishing second overall and the men placing fourth — powered by a blend of star performances, depth and balance across nearly every event.

It was the kind of meet that revealed not just speed, but staying power.

On the women’s side, Albany State leaned on its sprinters early and often, and few were better than Cadence Cray. The standout junior swept the 100-meter dash (11.81) and 200-meter dash (24.10), establishing herself as one of the meet’s most dominant performers.

She wasn’t alone.

Chavondria Crimes added a second-place finish in the 100 meters, while TyAsia Brown followed with a runner-up finish in the 200, giving the Lady Golden Rams a commanding presence in the sprint finals.

In the field events, Kaylee Holloway delivered a powerful weekend, winning the discus with a throw of 43.86 meters and finishing second in the shot put. Skye Zwirner added a second-place finish in the javelin, and Cadence Tanner cleared 1.66 meters to win the high jump.

Albany State’s depth showed up in the distance events as well.

Faith Thompson placed second in the 10,000-meter run, while Sydney Haywood contributed key points in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters. Brea Vann added a fourth-place finish in the 800, rounding out a strong showing across multiple disciplines.

The Lady Golden Rams also made their mark in the multi-events, where DeAna Albert turned in one of the meet’s most impressive all-around performances. Albert finished second in the heptathlon, highlighted by first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash.

Savannah Sparks (fifth) and Jasiyah McCutchen (seventh) added valuable points in the event, further underscoring Albany State’s depth.

The weekend ended the way it began — with speed.

The Lady Golden Rams’ 4×100-meter relay team captured first place with a time of 46.06, putting an exclamation point on a dominant sprint performance.

The Albany State men matched that energy with a strong showing of their own, highlighted by explosive performances on the track and steady production in the field.

Jace Weaver led the way with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash (10.66), while teammate Sanaljay Bentley, who posted the fastest time in the preliminaries, finished fourth in the finals.

Adoni Nembhard-Belcher added another victory for the Golden Rams, winning the 400 meters in 47.37, showcasing both speed and control down the stretch.

In the middle distances, Bangally Touray delivered a pair of podium finishes, placing third in both the 800 and 1,500 meters. Rayshawn Goodman added a fourth-place finish in the 800.

The field events provided steady points throughout the meet.

Michael Trimble placed second in the shot put, and he joined Tyler Nonnombre with scoring finishes in the hammer throw. Jamari Craig added a top-five finish in the discus, helping anchor a productive weekend for Albany State’s throwers.

The Golden Rams also made noise in the relays.

The 4×100-meter relay team captured first place with a time of 41.69, while the 4×400 team added a fourth-place finish.

Freshman Skyler Pittman turned in one of the most complete performances on the men’s side, finishing fourth in the decathlon. Pittman placed second in the high jump and finished in the top three in the long jump, 400 meters, pole vault and javelin, signaling a rising presence for the Golden Rams.
