ALBANY — The Albany State University Foundation has announced the entertainment lineup for the April 6 Blue and Gold Scholarship Gala 2024, which officials at the college promise will be an “unforgettable Night Under the Stars.”
The program will feature the Albany Symphony Orchestra, which will perform a range of classical and contemporary pieces. Local TV personality and singer Karla Heath-Sands will join the orchestra for a special vocal performance.
The Albany Symphony Orchestra was organized as the Albany Symphonette in 1964 by a group of individuals who enjoyed playing music and foresaw the potential for an orchestra in southwest Georgia.
Currently, the orchestra performs a variety of concerts each season, which include classical masterworks, pops concerts, and educational and family concerts, as well as collaborations with diverse organizations and agencies in the region.
Heath-Sands is a Georgia Association of Broadcasters GABBY award-winning on-air TV personality. She also has a rich background in music.
She has performed at Six Flags Over Georgia, was a sem-finalist for Star Search in Atlanta, and traveled to Japan in 1998 to sing as a part of the Cherry Blossom Festival. She has also appeared on BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel Hour, and is a member of the Bob Cummings and Reflections Band.
