Dougherty High students dominate Albany Woman’s Club art competition

ALBANY — The Georgia Federation of Woman’s Clubs’ Albany Woman’s Club presented its annual student art awards at the club’s May meeting.

The fourth-place finisher in district competition was De’Jon Young; third-place finisher was Laila Harris; the second-place award went to Kennard Norris, and Said Lopez claimed first-place honors at district and also was the recipient of the Albany Woman’s Club’s monetary art award.

Norris won first place at the state level and was presented with a check from the Georgia Federation of Woman’s Clubs.

The winners were announced by Hazel Masters, chairwoman of the Albany club’s Arts Department. The top four winners at the Southwest District competition are all from Dougherty Comprehensive High School, and all advanced to state competition.

Present at the event was Samantha Fields, the art teacher at Dougherty High and teacher off all four art recipients.

Laila Harris’s award was accepted by her mother.
