Porterfield Methodist Church celebrates freedom musically

ALBANY — Mike Keeley, the musical director of Porterfield Methodist Church, once again produced an extraordinary concert, “A Musical Celebration of Freedom,” commemorating the birth of America’s independence when the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
Hosted by narrator Bob Campbell, a retired sports marketing executive who spent years working at a local television station, the program began with songs performed by the Chancel Choir and Believers Band and ended with its annual tribute that included a photographic gallery of our veterans.
The major difference this year is that a U.S. Air Force captain and lieutenant commander of the U.S. Navy were omitted from the photographic gallery, in which they’ve appeared for years.
These men supported the then-Porterfield First Methodist Church as Sunday school teachers and financial contributors for years until its disaffiliation, and served their country to help make it the home of the free because of the brave. Thank you Drs. George Chastain and Harry Dorsey for your service. It will not be forgotten.
