THOMASVILLE — The Thomasville Entertainment Foundation kicks off its series of free family programming on Sunday with an outdoor concert featuring a unique musical ensemble, Quarteto Nuevo.
TEF encourages people to bring their lawn chairs or spread a blanket under the oaks at the Thomasville Center for the Arts and enjoy an afternoon performance that is both unique and family friendly.
Quarteto Nuevo merges western classical, eastern European folk, Latin and jazz music with an organic roots feel and a contemporary groove. The ensemble’s razor-sharp precision is enhanced by jazzy interludes, lightly rumbling percussion motifs and mesmerizing rhythms.
Representing different world cultures and musical styles, the quartet’s unique instrumentation – Damon Zick on soprano saxophone and alto flute, Jacob Szekely on cello, Kenton Youngstrom on guitar and Felipe Fraga playing hand percussion – richly colors their wide-ranging repertoire.
“We can’t wait to share this fun, unique performance with area residents, and like all TEF Family Series events, this concert is free and open to the public,” TEF President Peggy Brady said.
The TEF Family Series is made possible by generous grants and gifts honoring TEF’s long-time artistic leader, Janice Faircloth, by the Parker Poe Charitable Trust, Emily and Bill Searcy Charitable Trust, Dr. & Mrs. Douglas C. McPherson, the late Diane Williams Parker and other friends of TEF.
TEF’s Concert Series is presented in cooperation with the Thomasville Center for the Arts. For more information, contact the TEF office at (229) 226-7404 or visit www.TEFconcerts.com.
