Albany Audubon Society, dedicated to the conservation of birds and other wildlife, meets 7 p.m. second Thursday. Membership open to the public. Annual dues at the national and/or local level are $20 for an individual. Albany Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, an official auxiliary of the Air Force, meets at 7 p.m. Monday at Southwest Georgia Regional Airport. The squadron is recruiting volunteers. Cadet members, ages 12-18, fly, learn to lead, perform search and rescue, and get in shape. Cadets meet two hours weekly and one Saturday monthly, and have opportunities to attend leadership training, career academies and other activities during the summer. HEALTH/FITNESS
The NAMI Family-to Family Education Program will be offered beginning on Sept. 19. The program is free to family members and close friends of persons living with mental illness. Developed by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the course includes the latest research, support, resources and coping strategies. Teachers are trained family members of NAMI Albany. The course will meet for 12 consecutive Mondays, with two choices of meeting times: afternoons 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m. or evenings 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
