THOMASVILLE — What’s better on a Saturday morning than a good biscuit?
While it’s not the hot-baked variety, kids and their families can get a big helping of fun at 11 a.m. Saturday when the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation continues its Family Series with a children’s musical — ArtsPower’s production of “Biscuit.”
“We are excited to bring this wonderful children’s musical to Thomasville as part of our Family Series programming,” said Ann Larson, TEF’s vice president for education. “Not only will ‘Biscuit’ bring fun, family-friendly children’s theater to Thomasville, but we’re hopeful it will also inspire our young audience members to read, using the book series.”
Based on the children’s books by Alyssa S. Capucilli, the popular touring musical tells the story of a little girl who receives a special birthday present — a rambunctious little yellow puppy who loves exploring, making friends and stirring up mischief.
“Biscuit” is free for children and students under 18. Tickets for adults accompanying children are $10 each.
Presented at the Thomasville Center for the Arts at 600 E. Washington St., TEF officials say the show is geared toward children in pre-K through second grade, but Larson said audiences of any age are welcome.
“Young families can certainly attend this musical together, but this is also a perfect opportunity for grandparents to enjoy a morning of children’s theatre with their grandchildren,” Larson said.
In preparation for the performance, TEF officials say they have partnered with The Bookshelf, a local independent bookstore, for story time events featuring Capucilli’s books. Bookshelf proprietor Annie B. Jones will be reading from the “Biscuit” series during Saturday morning’s Howl-o-Ween event at the Thomasville Dog Park.
The Bookshelf will also sponsor a pop-up shop of “Biscuit” books at the Center on show day.
