Week of events scheduled at Albany’s Greater Joy Cathedral

ALBANY — Albany’s Greater Joy Cathedral at 2405 Lily Pond Road will serve as the host for the Celebration of Praise Ministries’ weeklong Holy Convocation Wednesday through Feb. 12.
Grammy winner Bishop Hezekiah Walker of Brooklyn, N.Y., will be the featured guest speaker Wednesday on the opening day of Celebration of Praise Ministries’ 26th convocation.
“We hold the Holy Convocation at the first of each year to bring all the churches in the Ministries together to make plans for the coming year,” Bishop Q.S. Caldwell, the founder and presiding prelate of Celebration of Praise Ministries Inc., said of the gathering. “We’ll have representatives of our more than 80 churches coming in from Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Rhode Island, California … across more than 25 states, plus the Philippines and Haiti.
“We also host national women’s conferences and national youth and leadership conferences every year, but at the annual convocation we take care of the churches’ business.”
Each day of the Holy Convocation will include special events, starting with Walker’s presentation Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday, classes will be held for the church representatives with a night service that evening. Caldwell will be the featured speaker during Friday’s communion service, which will be followed at around 11 p.m. by a musical featuring some of the nation’s top Christian recording artists.
Saturday night’s service will be women’s night, while representatives of churches in several states will give short testimonials during Sunday’s morning services. That evening, new church bishops will be consecrated.
Caldwell founded Celebration of Praise Ministries in the wake of the passing of his mentor, Bishop J.L. Litman, some 30 years ago. The ministries grew from his spiritual meeting, which he dubbed, “Let’s Celebrate.”
While the week of Holy Convocation activities is geared toward Celebration of Praise Ministries member churches, the public is invited to attend events of the convocation each day. To get more information, visit www.celebrationofpraiseministries.org online.
