Clinkscales home top yard for October
Daffodil Garden Club recognizes Fran and Phil Clinkscales
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — Fran and Phil Clinkscales moved in this home at 2502 W. Doublegate Drive in Albany about two years ago and immediately began renovations on the home, then made the yard their own.
The Daffodil Garden Club has named their residence its Yard of the Month for October.
“Fran planted 900 caladiums in the front and the back and it has been a showplace,” said Marideane Maxwell, chair of the club’s selection committee. “I had a couple of calls to check it out and I was not disappointed.
“Even though the caladiums are beginning to wane, it is still impressive.”
Maxwell said the Clinkscales are preparing for the change in seasons.
“Fran will be digging the bulbs soon for winter storage because you may lose them during the winter if they are left in the ground,” Maxwell said. “I have not so far mentioned Phil, but he is usually seen outside doing yard work and keeping everything pristine.”
The back of the home faces the golf course. Maxwell says that it is “lush and green with sitting areas so their handiwork can be enjoyed.”
Each month, the Daffodil Garden Club selects a residence for recognition in its Yard of the Month program. Club members say they hope the recognition encourages others to make improvement to their own yardscapes.
The club accepts nominations from the public. Call (229) 436-6888 and leave a message to nominate a residence.
The club meets at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Federated Garden Club, 808 Fifth Ave.
