ALBANY — Dougherty County School System Athletics Director Lea Henry was the guest speaker at the recent Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County meeting.
Henry, an All-American high school and college basketball player, replaced Johnny Seabrooks in the DCSS position after Seabrooks retired in July after a long career. Henry was women’s basketball coach at Darton State College before that Albany college was merged with Albany State University.
During the Kiwanis meeting, Henry expressed appreciation to Seabrooks and to Marvin Laster, the Albany Boys and Girls Clubs executive director, for their work with young people in the community.
Henry, a member of the gold medal-winning 1984 U.S. women’s Olympic basketball team, spoke with the club about the highlights of the Dougherty schools’ football and basketball seasons and events coming up in the system, especially track meets that she said have an economic impact by bringing a lot of visitors to the community.
Henry said her goal is to show students what they can achieve through athletics and education.
