CARTER SCHEDULE

President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to teach Sunday school on Sunday at Maranatha Baptist Church, 148 Georgia Highway 45 North, Plains. The Sunday school class starts at 10 a.m. and is preceded by an orientation period at 9 a.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. The church building opens at 7:30 a.m. Please note Carter’s schedule is subject to change. Visit the church website at www.mbcplains.org.

SPECIAL EVENT

A City on a Hill Church will serve a Thanksgiving meal for the less fortunate 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the church at 946 W. Broad Ave. in Albany.

SPECIAL SERVICES

Arcadia Missionary Baptist Church, 1214 N. Jackson St., will celebrate Men’s Day at 11 a.m. Sunday. The theme is “Men Involved in a Full Court Press for Jesus,” with guest speaker Perry Simmons Jr. of Cairo. Simmons is a graduate of Morris Brown College and a member of the College Athletic Hall of Fame. Simmons was a pastor in south Georgia before heading Abyssinian Baptist Church, where he served more than 34 years, in Newark, N.J. He is the founder and president of the Simmons Scholarship and Community Service Corporation, founder and executive director of the Newark Adult Youth Drug Prevention Partnership Program, and in 1984 received the “Religious Achievement Award” from Morris Brown College National Alumni. He serves on the college’s Board of Trustees. Simmons also has written three books.
