CARTER SCHEDULE

President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to teach Sunday school on Sunday at Maranatha Baptist Church, 148 Georgia 45 Highway North, Plains. The Sunday school class starts at 10 a.m. and is preceded by an orientation period at 9 a.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. The church building opens at 7:30 a.m. Please note Carter’s schedule is subject to change. Visit the church website at www.mbcplains.org.

NEW PASTOR

Charles E. Burney

Shiloh Baptist Church, Albany, has named the Rev. Charles E. Burney as its new interim pastor. Burney will follow in the footsteps of the Rev. H.C. Boyd, who died June 25. Boyd and Shiloh were key figures in the national and Albany Civil Rights movements. Boyd served as pastor of the church for more than 57 years. A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., and resident of Monticello, Fla., Burney will give his first sermon at Shiloh at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday.

SPECIAL SERVICES

James Cedric Anderson

Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Eight Mile Road, Albany, is celebrating the church’s 116th anniversary. The First Faith Church Family will participate at 7 p.m. Friday. The final service for the anniversary will be at 10:45 a.m. Sunday following 9:30 a.m. Sunday school. Elder James Cedric Anderson, of Snellville, will bring the message. Anderson is a 1992 graduate of Monroe Comprehensive High School and a 1996 graduate of Albany State University. He is the son of Mother Irene Ball and the late Deacon James Anderson.

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 143 Mt. Pleasant Road, Leesburg, will conduct its annual Homecoming celebration Sunday. Sunday school will be at 10 a.m. and the worship service at 11:15 a.m.

CHURCH EVENTS

Amazing Grace Baptist Church, 2217 Ledo Road, Albany, will conduct its annual women’s retreat 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 17. The event includes Bible study led by Linda Summers and music by Marilyn Bass. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. No child care. RSVP by Sept. 12 to Joyce Langford, (229) 288-5274.
